In 1948, a lady who lived on King St. in Medford, Oregon saw my grandma sitting on the front porch holding a baby. Her 6 year old boy was running wild in the front yard. She said, "you should let me take him off your hands on Sunday mornings and I'll take him to Sunday school for you. My grandmother quickly agreed as I am sure she needed a break from that wild rambunctious little boy.
Within a few years that boy, my father, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Within a few years of that, my aunt, uncle, grandma and grandpa accepted Christ. The lineage continues to this day.
That one lady inviting my dad to Sunday school led to three young lives eventually getting into ministry and that led to literally thousands of people accepting Christ as their savior all across the nation and world.
A few years ago my pastor preached a message on Sunday advising
me to "pay attention to the nudge." That day, God nudged me and I
felt I needed to do something to help the homeless and others who may be struggling financially. But I didn't want to just hand out cash and possibly help fuel a bad habit. I wanted to give something that really could improve their lives. Maybe even change their lives.
I decided to print out a personal note and attach it to the back of a food gift card. On many occasions as I have given these to homeless people, I have driven away and looked back only to see them raise their head up and smile, some cry and some have just scratched their head. My goal was to give out 30 or 40 of these every year, and I have done that. But now, I am hoping to reach more people and not just the homeless. I give these out to waiters as tips, workers at the car wash in lieu of a few dollars of a cash tip, I've even left them in the hotel room when I check out to try to reach the person that cleans the room.
I am not a religious man. I'm afraid what I have done for Jesus on this earth is very inconsequential. But I do thank Him for my salvation and I want to do what I can to help others believe in Him too.
I am looking to get 100 people initially and hopefully 1,000 people eventually to join me in handing out a food gift card a month to someone with the attached tract to try and reach more people for Christ. If you are interested in doing this, just email me below and I will send you 12 of these tracts that you can then attach to gift cards for food and hand out to anyone.
There is no cost for the tract. I had them printed up and I will mail 12
of them to you at my expense. Your only cost is going to your local grocery store and buying the food gift card. If this idea nudges you to action in any way, I encourage you to pay attention to the nudge.
This may be a silly idea, but what if one of your food gift cards
reaches as many people as the lady who lived on King St?
Sign up for updates on people reached and to let me know where to mail your 12 tracts.
